It starts with the idea that I wanted to do something Sri Lankan, something unique and uncommon, my mother tongue is Sinhala and that would be the closest thing to show that I’m a Sri Lankan. So I came up with typography Sinhala letter print inspired with the shape and colors of the roll up vintage palm leaf, mixing history and present elements together I have created a simple and unique day-wear collection with simple cuts and more Sri Lankan image.

I'm Madavi Karunarathna
I have not looked at a designer for my key shapes. But I love the designs by John Galliano, Stella Mccartney, Alexander Mcqueen. I love their use of color and shapes. Mine is uncommon and different because of the cut and print detail and because of the technique that I have added. I always use important elements from the inspiration to create a wow factor. My inspiration is seen in my silhouette but I have made sure that it is not too dramatic, making only wearable pieces.
I like using the batik technique, different types of print techniques, uncommon cuts and shapes, drapery, graffiti and detailing.
Looking at my main inspiration and following the key words has given me a good path to create something new and uncommon, and also I look at the shapes seen in current trends.
Fabrics, colors, trims details all depend on and will change according to the inspiration. I love to use cotton fabrics which are easy to mange and comfortable. I love to use colors and play with them in order to create vibrant hued garments.
